The grooves are solid, the playing immaculate and the three-part vocal harmonies the icing on the cake

Soothsayers

Dance-inducing grooves, heavy dub bass lines, afrobeat rhythms, sublime vocal harmonies, fiery horns interplay and strong political messages are all captured in catchy, upbeat feel-good music for the soul.

Soothsayers have led the way for the last two decades with a unique blend of UK jazz, afrobeat and reggae that has been a key influence in the explosion of young jazz talent that has emerged from London in the past few years.

With 7 studio albums to date (the latest released on Wah Wah 45s in 2018) and a gig list that includes most major UK festivals including Glastonbury and Womad plus a whole range of international appearances including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Rototom, Sierra Nevada California and Dhaka World Music Festival.

Plus, collaborations with top quality artists including a host of world famous Jamaicans like Johnny Clarke, Cornel Campbell, Michael Prophet, Little Roy as well as great work with UK based artists Mad Professor, Dennis Bovell, Earl 16 and Manasseh.

Soothsayers’ band leaders Idris Rahman and Robin Hopcraft have also lent their skills to an array of other projects including Jerry Dammers Spatial AKA, Ill Considered, Arun Ghosh, Aswad, Anoushka Shankar, “Fela” The Musical at the National Theatre and many more.

The band shows no signs of slowing their pace - their next album is in progress, with recordings done already in Brazil and with some choice London-based collaborators, again due for release on Wah Wah 45s.
