Natasha Brown is to take over as Creative Director at Streatham Space Project in April 2023. Natasha is a freelance writer and theatre maker based in South London, who writes for stage and screen and directs work for young people and community groups.

Her work has been performed at The Royal Court, Donmar Warehouse and Liverpool Everyman. She is a trustee at Theatre Peckham and was awarded the 2022 Playwrights’ Scheme Bursary, supported by Film4 and the Peggy Ramsey Foundation.

 Natasha says:

“I am so excited to join Streatham Space Project. Andy and the team have done a wonderful job in establishing this glorious arts centre as a hub of creativity within the Streatham community. I feel truly honoured to take up the baton and lead it.

Streatham Space Project will be a home of new ideas across the arts, championing a diverse range of artists and stories. The space will be a springboard for talent, a laboratory to experiment - with our neighbourhood at the heart of everything we do.”

Current Creative Director Andy McKeane is stepping down from his role after nearly seven years designing and setting up the venue with Executive Director Lucy Knight, and a team of south London artists from 2016.

Andy will be resuming a creative freelance career in which he’s worked with internationally-acclaimed director Declan Donnellan and Tony award-nominated Timothy Sheader, and led capital projects for Battersea Arts Centre and at Streatham Space Project.

His first project The Marvellous Myth Hunter with collaborator Amari Harris, will be playing literary and children’s festivals this summer, having recently featured at the Southbank Centre’s Imagine Children’s Festival.

Andy says:
“I’m really excited to see where Natasha is going to take Streatham Space Project over the next few years, I’m completely made up that she’s coming in.

From the outset, I’ve learned so much from the amazing people doing unbelievable things in south London – creators, audience members, people running charities and grassroots organisations – and I will miss that energy enormously.

It’s always going to be hard to leave something that you set up, but I feel the time is right for a new chapter, and with Natasha coming in to join our team I’m confident that there are very exciting times ahead for Streatham Space Project.”

Chair of trustees Brian Harris says:

“All of us at Streatham Space Project are delighted that Natasha has agreed to become our next Creative Director. Natasha is a talented arts leader with a strong track record of writing and developing new creative projects with a commitment to inclusivity and engagement.

Her experience at a range of high-profile venues including The Gate, The Yard and South Bank Centre means she also brings us valuable experience of venue development and management.”
